Steve was USAC’s 1979 National Midget Champion. Over the span of his fifteen year USAC career he ...competed in 332 events. His first start came in 1972 driving for Don Kenyon in the familiar #61 at Springfield Speedway.
In 1976, 1978 and 1981 he finished as the runner-up in the National standings to Sleepy Tripp, Rich Vogler and Mel Kenyon respectively. The 1976 season found him winning the series “Most Improved Driver” award.
Steve was a very steady and predictable competitor who was equally at home on dirt, pavement or indoors. He garnered Indoor wins at Ft. Wayne in 1976, 1979, 1980 and Peoria, IL in 1987. In 1984 he captured one of his most significant wins “The Night Before the 500” at Indianapolis Raceway Park.
Steve has served as the Drivers Representative on the USAC Board of Directors. He also served on the Board of the National Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame
