This New England race driver was born May 28, 1926 in Fairfield, Connecticut. He competed with ARDC... in 1950 finishing 16th in overall points driving a Ford-60, which placed him first in the Ford Division. 1951 saw Fred finish second in the Ford Division, 1952 he ran 8th in ARDC points. In 1953 he competed in the newly created NASCAR and NEMA organizations. He won the very first NEMA/ARDC race held at Seekonk, Ma in a clean sweep, winning both the Ford Feature and the regular Feature and both of his heats. He ran with NASCAR finishing third in points just 10 pts behind the Champion fellow inductee Nick Fornoro. In ARDCs short season he won two features out of the eight shows they held. In 1954 he again compete in all three organizations, concentrating on NASCAR, coming home in third place overall.
In 1955 he and fellow “nutmegger” Chuck Arnold tussled back and forth for the title with Freddie winning the Championship. He was a dominate force on the NASCAR circuit in 1956 winning thirteen features, taking home his second Driving Championship. At the end of the 56 season he surprised everyone and announced his retirement from racing.
Freddie passed away peacefully at his home in Connecticut March of 2007 at the age of 80
