Anthony Joseph Foyt has been called the greatest driver of all time by many. He holds the USAC recor...d for all-time career wins with 159 victories.
He made his USAC debut in 1956 during the “Night Before the 500.” He won his first midget feature in 1957 with a 100-lapper at Kansas City and placed 7th in the point standings
Even though Foyt concentrated on the sprint and Championship cars after his first season with USAC he continued to race midgets on occasion. He won the “Turkey Night Grand Prix” in 1960 and 1961, the first two years it was held at Ascot Park.
In 1961 he won the “Hut Hundred” and repeated again in 1965. People still talk about the ’61 race when he won the event from last place. He was also 7th in the midget division in 1961, the year he won his first 500 and his second National Championship.
In 1970 he won the second Astro Grand Prix which he also promoted in his home town.
