Born in Denver, Colorado Joe started racing in motorcycles in 1929. He was the National Hill Climb ...Champion in 1932. He got interested in midgets around 1938. After racing resumed after the war in 1946 in the Denver area, Joe campaigned with an Elto powered midget. In 1947 he started driving a V8-60 for Kenz Edlebrock on the RMMRA and CMRA circuits.
During the 1950’s he spent considerable time in the Mid-West racing, he drove the Hardwood Door Corp machine owned by Ashley Wright for a period of time. His last midget win was in 1962 at Lakeside Speedway in Denver.
By trade Joe was a machinist and worked at Merrill Engineering along with fellow NMARHoF Inductee Foster Campbell. Joe passed away in 1986 at the age of 77. He was inducted into the Colorado Motorsports Hall of Fame.
